Situated on top of a mountain, the new communication facility provides much needed space for high profile government wireless users. The project consists of a new building to house 18 tenants, a new 180’ self-supporting tower, and an extension to an existing tower. It was initiated by a request from a Native American community to consolidate all hi-tech environments on a mountain in order to preserve, respect, and revere Native American land. Many significant challenges arose including the need to not disturb any ground with material or staging. Because of the severity of the landscape and elevations, structures must withstand winds of 120 mph. With the wind and winter snow, this put the construction window at two months. The solution is a modular, precast building on a floating concrete foundation. The foundations for the towers were concrete pads poured above grade. Extraordinary coordination was necessary for acceptable construction methods; clearance to a high security, limited access site; and structures able to withstand extreme weather conditions. The project’s success was also due to on-time delivery and open communication with all parties.

In 2009, PTS was commissioned to provide A&E services for 130 Clearwire new build projects. This is a part of Clearwire’s 2010 launch of high speed wireless internet network services in Utah’s most densely populated corridor. As a major component of this effort, PTS stepped in and provided faster deployment process and efficiently met deadlines and deliverables. From this emerged an effort where A&E services for this deployment were quickly dispatched, sites visited, information gathered, and preliminary construction documents delivered for most sites within a six week period. Such dynamic efforts enabled Clearwire and its affiliates to get back on track in preparation for the network launch in 2010.
The projects consisted of concealment of antennas on rooftops, antenna placement on existing monopoles, self-support lattice towers, replacement flag poles, and replacement electrical distribution poles. Another major portion of projects concealed antennas within faux rock structures designed as part of an existing large granite rock in a canyon near ski resorts. PTS is in the process of expanding its role in this market by providing site acquisition, permitting, and additional A&E services for future Clearwire network expansions as the project moves into late 2010.

Many challenges were met prior to construction including following rigorous city requirements. A 7,000 gallon retention pipe was installed to meet the need to have water kept on site. Studies were done to ensure that traffic patterns would not be affected with the additional children being picked up. The exterior colors are muted and neutral, blending in with the houses and buildings in the area.
